Scouting Radio is a not-for-profit Internet Radio station broadcasting 24 hours a day to the Scouting and Guiding movement.
Broadcasting since 2005, Scouting Radio has become an award winning media outlet for Scouts and Guides to share knowledge and information on the Scout and Guide movement in a safe manner. It is clear that social networking has become one of the dominant cultural phenomena in these digital times.
Our station is run by volunteer Scouts and Guides from across the globe. The concept of Scouting Radio was created in 2005 by Justin Dawson who is a life-long Scouter. The college project which Justin created as part of his media degree has now become an award winning radio station which has been endorsed by the Honourable Michael Baden-Powell Grandson to the founder of Scouting.
By blending credible scouting information on Beaver Scouts, Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Keas, Explorers, Scouts, Senior Scouts, Ventures and Rovers Scouts and news from every corner of the world Scouting Radio strives to bring depth to the world of scouting, bring the world of scouting to a mainstream audience, and promote the outdoor lifestyle to everybody.
It took one man with a vision to take a group of 24 boys to Brownsea in 1907. Now over 100 years later Scouting has become the largest volunteer youth movement in the World and the largest peace movement in the world.
If Baden-Powell was alive today he would strive on social networking to sell his message of his peace movement. His simple radio messages of Wolf Cubs and Jamborees would have been sent across the world in seconds. It took 12 years for television to reach an audience of 50 million, It took Facebook only 3 years to get 50 million subscribers. In 2007 Scouting Radio boasted a quarter of a million listeners during the Scouting Sunrise festival.
One out of every 5 minutes online is spent on social media related sites. Scouting Radio has always bought into new media initiatives and invite our listeners feedback via facebook, twitter, skype and email along with live studio phone calls.
Our promise is to deliver the best information to Scouts across the globe of events that have happened and will be happening within the Scouting and Guiding Movement. We promise to be the first for news and information in Scouts and Guides. Scouting Radio will offer an interactive medium with our listeners of all ages. We shall never discriminate from Scouting Organisations, we wish to create a welcoming place for all Scouts to communicate, and bring the Scouting Movement together as one, as Baden Powell envisaged.
We welcome comments and material from all Scouts, whether members of World Organistation of Scout Movement, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, World Federation Independent Scouts or other independent bodies, such as Spiral Scouts, Campfire USA etc.
As our Scouting Radio team are Scouts and Guides, we practice what we preach to our youth. That is the Scout Law and the Scout Promise, and this should go without saying that there is no divide in the Scouting or Guiding Movement.
Our commitment is to continue broadcasting to the 30 million Scouts and 10 million Guides throughout the globe. We observe the words of the founder " Leave the world better than you found it".
