Firefighters remember Little Sioux

image

Many remember seeing footage of a shredded American Flag at Ground Zero just after the twin towers fell. The flag was taken down and kept by an engineer at Ground Zero.

Last year, the flag was taken by the United States Emergency Chaplains Corp to Greensburg, Kansas during their 9-11 outreach effort during which it was patched with the remnants of other flags and repaired.

This year, the USECC has chosen Little Sioux as their outreach effort for 2009.  At the 9-11 flag makes its 3 state trek to Little Sioux it will be making a stop at the Nebraska State Capitol at a reception hosted by Governor Dave Heineman.  The Cornhusker Council, BSA has been asked to serve as group responsible for the flag while it is on site.

The 9-11 flag is a 32’x 17’ flag and will require 50 uniformed Scouts and Scouters to care for the flag while on route to Little Sioux.
