Great Lakes Centenial Jamboree

Scouting Radio will broadcast news and information from the Great Lakes Centenial Jamboree held in Wisconsin from 25 to 27th September 2009.
The year 2010 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, and, of course, the corresponding National Jamboree. The leadership of eight Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan Upper Peninsula Councils met starting in 2006 to discuss how we could be a part of this grand event and to support the class of youth that miss out on the 2010 Jamboree (as a youth) due to shifting it to match Scouting’s anniversary.
The councils agreed to hold a regional event worthy of this “once in a lifetime” anniversary. Hence, the Great Lakes Centennial Jamboree was born! More Councils have signed on as the planning has progressed. The event has two main goals:
Ø Celebrate 100 years of Scouting in America
Ø Provide our youth with an opportunity on par with the 2010 National Jamboree
Targeted at Scout troops and Venturing crews from Wisconsin, northern Illinois, upper Michigan, and surrounding states. Webelos can attend as guests of their local Scout Troops and some age-appropriate events will be included for Webelos. Venturers and older Scouts will also get a set of activities tailored to their interests. Troops and Crews will be housed in subcamps using their own tents, similar to the National Jamboree. Friday evening will allow time to get set up and attend events within each subcamp. Each Scout can choose their own pace for Saturday’s daytime events, although some special opportunities will be offered in limited quantities at specified times.
Activities include Paintballing, Guitar Hero, kayaking, swimming and heliocopter rides.
Keep listening to Scouting Radio with Keith Westergaard for more on this anniversary event!
