Scouting Skills Book Launched

Based on 100 years of experience of the outdoors, The Scout Association has produced a new book crammed full of expert outdoor knowledge: A Complete Guide to Scouting Skills.
Launched Sunday on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Scouts tried out some of the skills for themselves in front of UK media.
Introduced by Chief Scout Bear Grylls and published by Doubleday, the new book contains over 200 pages of useful outdoor advice guaranteed to help you out in any tricky situation – from navigating by the stars to identifying wildlife; packing a rucksack to building a survival shelter.
‘This is the outdoor handbook brought to you by the people who wrote the rules,’ said Bear Grylls, Chief Scout of SAUK. The book is ideal for both adults and young people, offering something for beginners and experts alike.
The book will be used by the 400,000 boys and girls and 100,000 adult volunteers that are part of Scouting in the UK, as well as being available through retailers to bring the knowledge to anyone with an interest in the outdoors and the skills that can help you survive.
‘Into this book we’ve crammed the best and most useful skills you should have learned but never got round to,’ said Bear, ‘or once knew but have now forgotten.’
Scouting Radio's Colin Walker will be commenting on the new book on his show this week. With new skills such as using GPS equipment we ask is this the way to look to teach Scouting?
We appreciate your comments as always to the programme.
