23rd July to 2nd August 2018

Roverway 2018 will take place next summer in the Netherlands from 23 July till 2 August. We can’t wait to see you there!

This Roverway edition will focus on the personal development of the participating Rovers and Rangers as part of their role in society.

The Roverway will provide the environment in which Rovers and Rangers can interchange experiences, knowledge and ideas. This exchange of experiences will be encouraged through the three educational objectives, which all centralize around society and intercultural learning.

Encounters and debate are essential in our daily lives: there is you and the other, but one does not exist without the other: there is no fight without an opponent. No boys without girls. No land without water. No North without South and no youth without growing old.

In our society it is easy to walk away to what you know and choose the easy road, but humans are curious creatures that want to discover what is behind it all. Roverway challenges Rovers and Rangers to explore the unknown paths and uncharted waters with us and to develop a constructive and critical mind-set about their role in society. Let’s approach each other in open and honest debate.

The Hague is, despites it’s location, the most easily accessible city in the Netherlands by all forms of transport. In just under 40 minutes you arrive in The Hague from Schiphol- or Rotterdam-airport. Therefore an ideal location to gather with almost 4000 international Rovers and Rangers!

Besides being positioned in such an ideal location, the city offers a wide range of interests: culture, international character, architecture and off course a lot of friendly people. The people of the Netherlands are: always ready to help and willing to help you find your way in our beautiful country. But as the showpiece, The Hague partially consists of the beachside Scheveningen, a three kilometers stretch of beachside just 10 minutes from the city center. In short we couldn’t hope for a better opening location than The Hague because it simply doesn’t exist.

After the participants return from their Paths, they will all gather at Zeewolde. At Zeewolde the main camp of Roverway 2018 will take place. It will be in the centre of the Netherlands at the new International Dutch Scout Centre Scoutinglandgoed Zeewolde. This International Scout and Guide Centre of 70ha is located in the Province of Flevoland, on land that was reclaimed from the sea half a century ago. This basically means the whole camp will take place under sea level! The site in Zeewolde is near the site of the 18th World Jamboree of 1995 and was officially opened in 2015 by Queen Maxima, our patroness. The International Scout and Guide Centre offers endless opportunities to hike and undertake activities in the surrounding forest and nature. Across the dam, the site has direct access to open water for sailing and other water activities.

The centre was developed by Scouting Nederland on a former forestry site. New nature has been developed, ponds were created and in the next years additional facilities and accommodations are build. Sustainability and accessibility for the disabled have been the aim during the site development.
